Every month, in no particular order, this page will highlight one of the many artists who has contributed to the production and success of House of Chai productions. I’d love to include a page of links to all of the artists I admire, or even to just the ones I know and respect. But if I did, it would require a webpage that would scroll as much as the Torah!

House of Chai - Featured artist of the month
July 2008 -
Ariel Alvarez

Chef Ariel Alvarez, Fumi and the Bad Luck Foot Wrap Party, 2005.

This month’s airspace at the House of Chai is occupied by the aviator from Argentina, Ariel Alvarez. I first met Ariel when I landed back at San Jose State University, and have enjoyed watching him take it to new heights ever since.

During school, Ariel worked on layout and background for Fumi and the Bad Luck foot, did a dazzling two drawings for Cole Needs Women, and designed the slick look of the backgrounds for the currently unreleased “Bowling Ball” film, Shady Lanes.

In addition to being a wonderfully talented artist, Ariel also was a highly regarded member of San Jose State University’s Parking Enforcement Services; earning records for the most vehicles ever ticketed in one year. Animation faculty members would regularly return to their ticketed vehicles in fear, only to find such written warnings as “You lack discipline!” Ariel is also a proficianado of table tennis, a lover of aircrafts, and a maestro with the Arnold Schwarzenegger sound board.

Ariel has worked as a concept art intern at Factor 5, and most recently worked as a concept artist at Electronic Arts. His combat mission with EA ended recently though, so if you’re in the market for an ace to add to your squadron, get a hold of him soon because he wont be flying solo for long!

Please place your seat backs up, put your tray tables in their upright and locked positions, and raise your bag of peanuts high in honor of Mr. July, Ariel Alvarez!

Be sure to enjoy the rest of Ariel's images below, and check out more of his work at his online portfolio and on his art blog.

¡Muchas gracias, Ariel!
